Today's decision is all about supplies. I always have paint and paper. Now that I have the ability to make my own prints, with my fancy new Art printer, I will need lots of supplies. Like mats, backing, sleeves, bags to put the art in when at the show. I have been buying large white shopping bags, and they are expensive, almost $3. per bag. I like then because I stamp my Logo on them, BUT a artist colleague told me to order on line, they are much less expensive if you buy in bulk.
So I went on line, and got so confused....between the type of mat, size of mat, quality of mat, etc, you get the picture. I purchased nothing. Thank goodness my colleague called me and asked if I wanted to order some with her order. YES!!!!! Together we saved on shipping and handling, and I can see how I like these supplies. Just another reason to join art societies, you meet other artists who are kind enough to share their experience and their knowledge. These supplies are heavy when in bulk and the shipping is expensive, so together we help each other. Oh and because together or order was more we got an even lower price. Love lower price!
I would say I am about 85 percent ready for this show. EXCEPT.....there is no room for me. I don't know if I just misunderstood, or my anxiety took over, but somehow I was waiting for them to contact me. I thought it was about time they contacted me, by this time I stopped in to Armory, and they said I would be notified by email and snail mail. So I waited, and waited, and waited. Finally I emailed and called only to find out that because they didn't receive my booth fee, my space was taken. OMG...... I felt awful. After a day of feeling sorry for myself, I guess I'll go with "What's meant to be will be". And I guess I'm not meant to be in this show.......even if I was juried in and am 85%, no 95% no 100% ready. Think I am over it? Well I guess I'll never do this again....wait to find out more info that is. They did tell me they would call if someone backs out. We will see.
NEXT.....I think it may have been a sign for me to finally open my etsy shop.
So be on the look out, Paint on, my friends!!!
Just to show you the difference one photo is of "Raw Art", no mat, no backing and no frame. The other is of a matted, backed and sleeve. Which one would you prefer to purchase? As a consumer the easier it is the better it is, and I make sure all matter art can just be dropped into a STANDARD size frame.
Another tip is if you happen to buy art that is not a standard size, buy an additional mat that is standard......then your art has a double mat, and will then fit in a standard size frame. Unfortunately the paper makers and the mat makers don't talk. Sometimes and Artist will create a great piece of Art not realizing it is not
Going to a mass framing place that offers 50-60% off is not where you want to go for anything custom. The charges they have are just ridiculous. When you need a standard sie frame they are great and you have a big selection. Now again, if you have a special size, that could be tricky. You have two options.
1. Go to local framer and let them mat and frame to your liking.
2. Go to same framer and ask for a "double Mat". Framer should know that the second mat can be placed over existing mat, but the outside of mat is standard size. This will eliminate the need for custom frame. It is so much better in pricel, and gives art work a nice touch.
